Power Plant in Haryana Nuclear
Power is another option being explored by the State Govt. for generating electricity
in the State. A suitable site has been identified in Fatehabad Distt. for setting
up of a 2800 MW (4x700 MW) Nuclear Power Plant. The matter is being pursued
with Govt. of India. Irrigation Deptt., Haryana has confirmed availability of
320 cusecs water (160 cusecs consumptive) and it was conveyed to NPCIL on 06.02.06.
The site selection team (SSC-2005) of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd.
(NPCIL), visited to review the Kumharia site on 18.06.07 alongwith HPGCL officers.
The requisite details regarding the Population density in the periphery of 5km,
10km, 16km and 30 km, alternate water supply source from WYC and raising the height
of Fatehabad branch of Bhakra Main Canal for carrying additional 320 cusecs of
water have been furnished to the SSC-2005 team of NPCIL.
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India gave assurance for setting up Nuclear Power Project
in Kumharia, during the Foundation Stone Laying of 1200 MW Rajiv Gandhi Thermal
Power Project at Hisar on 19.05.07. Further, in order to study Environmental and
safety aspects of Nuclear power generation, a technical team of HPGCL visited
Narora Atomic Power Plant on 07.07.07. Thereafter, to understand the process /
impact of setting up a Nuclear Power Plant, a team headed by FC (Power), comprising
of MD/HPGCL and Director/Projects, HPGCL visited NPCIL, Mumbai and Tarapur Atomic
Power Plant on 01.08.07. Matter is being pursued with the Govt. of India for setting
up of this project during the 11th Plan and for allocation of larger
share of power (at least 50%) in the power generated from this Nuclear power
station.
